Ein Auf und Ab mit “happy end”
Der unermüdliche Einsatz der Organisatoren hat sich schlussendlich gelohnt: Aufgrund der warmen Temperaturen eine Woche vor der Eröffnung der Rodel-WM (15. bis 18. Jänner 2015) drohte die zuvor
bereits perfekte Natur-Rodelbahn am Sigmundsberg beinahe “davonzuschwimmen” und die vielen Arbeitsstunden der letzten Wochen waren zunichte gemacht. Die Absage der WM-Bewerbe drohte bereits, als
man sich nur wenige Tage vor der Eröffnung dann entschied, die Präparierung der Bahn doch noch einmal in Angriff zu nehmen, damit die Bewerbe wie geplant stattfinden können.
Tag und Nacht arbeiteten zahlreiche Helfer, karrten Schnee heran, vereisten und hofften auf die dafür notwendigen Minusgrade. Und der Einsatz war die vielen Mühen wert. Eine perfekt organisierte Veranstaltung, zufriedene Sportler aus aller Welt, ein begeistertes Publikum und zuletzt dann auch noch “Bilderbuchwetter” entschädigten für die Strapazen, die das Team auf sich genommen hatte.
Patrick Pigneter und Evelyn Lanthaler küren sich zu den Weltmeistern 2015
Bei den Herren feierte die italienische Mannschaft mit Patrick Pigneter, Alex Gruber und Florian Breitenberger in einem spannenden Finalbewerb einen Dreifacherfolg, die beiden Österreicher Thomas
Kammerlander und Michael Scheikl mussten sich unterdessen mit den Rängen vier und fünf zufrieden geben.
Sieg und Platz drei der Damenwertung ging ebenso an Italien – Evelin Lanthaler gewann überraschend vor der Russin Ekaterina Lawrentjewa und Greta Pinggera. Tina Unterberger wurde als beste
Österreicherin fünfte.

Spektakuläres Showprogramm
Am Sonntag wurde zwischen dem letzten Bewerb und der Siegerehrung dann auch noch ein spektakuläres Showprogramm geboten. Ein Mountainbiker versuchte, es den Rodlern gleich zu tun und stürzte sich
auf Spikereifen durch den Eiskanal von St. Sebastian ins Tal. Und der Mariazeller Rallyepilot Wolfram Doberer vom “Bezirksblätter Racing Team” versuchte mit seinem allradgetriebenen Mitsubishi
Lancer EVO die Rodelbahn bergwärts zu bezwingen und dabei die Laufzeit der Rodler zu unterbieten.
Gut, dass diese Showeinlage erst nach den Wertungsläufen erfolgte, denn nach der Besichtigungs- und den zwei Wertungsfahrten war die Eisschicht der Bahn stellenweise völlig zerstört – das
Publikum allerdings kam in den Genuss, eine technische und fahrerische Herausforderung hautnah beobachten und miterleben zu können.
Gekrönt war der Sonntag allerdings vom traumhaften Wetter – schneebedeckte Landschaft, weiße Wälder, Sonnenschein und blauer Himmel und vom WM-Gelände aus ein unbeschreiblicher Blick auf
Mariazell und das Mariazeller Land. Bilder, die die Chance haben, um die ganze Welt zu gehen und somit zusätzlich zur perfekten Veranstaltungsorganisation eine wunderbare Werbewirkung für unsere
Region darzustellen.
An dieser Stelle auch ein großes Dankeschön an alle Organisatoren, an die unzähligen freiwilligen Helfer und an die Sponsoren – auch wenn der ORF vergleichsweise bescheiden über diese
Veranstaltung berichtet hat, die WM im Naturbahnrodeln in St. Sebastian wird nicht nur den Einheimischen sondern auch den Sportlern und den Gästen und Besuchern positiv in Erinnerung
